Agile Web Development
I develop web applications. I work carefully and with great commitment focusing on quality through the agile project management method SCRUM. Creating good software is easier said than done, so I’m always proud when I finish another project.
I do this for customers who recognize that development is a complex process and requires much collaboration. I expect my customers to have a flexible scope, in return they get a lot of insight and control on the development process.
Approach - Agile Development & SCRUM
Agile (web) development is a set of best practices based on the agile manifesto. Most of these practices promote development iterations, teamwork, collaboration, and process adaptability throughout the life-cycle of the project.
This agile approach towards software development is a result of failing of more traditional approaches like the waterfall method. These approaches are typified as heavily regulated, regimented and micro-managed. Software developers tend to see these approaches as bureaucratic, slow, demeaning, and inconsistent with the ways they actually perform effective work. Projects using traditional approaches suffer from bad planning, scope- and feature creep which causes them to delay, become over budget or maybe even being stopped.
Unlike many other disciplines software development does not take advantage from a carefully detailed planning upfront of months and months of development work. Instead, just a few practical goals and a global scope should be defined, allowing a flexible and detailed planning to be worked out as implementation goes on.
One of those agile approaches is SCRUM. SCRUM defines roles for people committed to the project. Each role has different responsibilities such as a scrum master for maintaining the processes and a product owner for defining the scope. The development team is given much responsibility and is expected to be self organizing allowing the best architectures, requirements, and designs to emerge from the team itself.
